Altera Agilex 5 FPGA E-Series Modular Dev Kit - Unboxing | DigiKey

We take a look at the Agilex 5 FPGA E-Series Modular Dev Kit from Altera. It’s a complete prototyping and reference platform for high performance FPGA and SOC designs in compute, networking, Edge AI and embedded applications. Inside the box, you’ll find the FPGA main board attached to the PCIe carrier board, a power supply, power cords, USB and ethernet cables, a micro SD card reader and a micro SD to SD card adapter. The micro SD card is pre-programmed and installed in the FPGA main board. In this demo we’re going to run Altera’s Board Test System to run the DisplayPort loopback test using the Agilex 5. For that, you’ll need to install Quartus Prime Pro and download the Board Test System application package. To use the board in a bench-top setup, connect to the micro USB port labeled “UART” on the carrier board’s bracket, connect the power supply to the 2 by 3 ATX connector on the carrier board, and plug a DisplayPort cable into both DisplayPorts on the carrier board. Before starting, open Quartus Prime Pro to set the necessary environment variables, then run start.bat as an administrator to open the Board Test System app. Click the Agilex 5 button and configure the DisplayPort loopback test. Once it finishes programming, we can run it, insert errors, see errors detected and a calculated bit error rate. Altera also provides a Golden Top project with constraints, pin locations, and other parameters to give you a starting point for custom projects.
