Microchip BB22H52A Building Block Solution Switchers Board – Unboxing | DigiKey
We take a look at the Building Block Solutions Switchers board from Microchip. It’s a demonstration platform to easily test, compare, and characterize different DC to DC converter designs. Inside the box, you’ll find the switchers board with seven different sub-modules that operate independently. There are 4 boost regulators, 2 buck regulators, and one LED driver. In this demo we’re going to use the LED driver module to light a string of LEDs. Each module has clearly labeled terminals, test points and input and output ratings. The buck and boost regulators each include an enable pin that is pulled high, so you can pull it low to disable the regulator, while the LED driver has a dimming input instead. For the LED driver, we’re supplying a 5 volt supply, within its 2.4 to 5.5 volt input range, and we’re connecting 5 LEDs. It can accommodate any type of LED string up to 100 milliamps and under a 25 volt combined forward voltage. We also have a 100 hertz square wave input with an adjustable duty cycle for PWM dimming control. Once everything is hooked up, we can turn on the power supply and the LEDs light up. Now as we adjust the duty cycle on our square wave, we can control the brightness of the LEDs.
