On February 10, 2014, the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) published a revision to its EISA 2007 external power supply (EPS) efficiency standard, increasing the minimum efficiency requirements as well as expanding the range of products applicable under the new standard. On February 10, 2016 this law went into effect. In Europe, even more stringent requirements, which are currently voluntary, look set to become mandatory Ecodesign rules in the near future. These existing and proposed laws have implications for any OEM that designs products with an external ac-dc power supply for the US and EU markets.
