MCX W Series Microcontrollers

The NXP MCX W series delivers secure, low-power multiprotocol wireless connectivity for smart home, building automation, industrial, and IoT applications. Based on the 96 MHz Arm® Cortex®-M33, the portfolio supports Bluetooth® Low Energy (BLE), Matter™, Thread® and Zigbee® in standalone and hosted architectures for devices ranging from sensors and access-control products to hubs and gateways.

MCX W devices use an independent radio subsystem with a dedicated core and memory to offload wireless processing from the main application. The portfolio also provides integrated EdgeLock® Secure Enclave technology, industrial operating temperatures from -40°C to +125°C, pin and software compatibility, and memory options that support scalable designs and over-the-air updates.

The MCX W71 family supports multiprotocol IoT end nodes and hosted network or radio-coprocessor designs. For applications requiring precise and secure distance measurement, the MCX W72 adds Bluetooth Channel Sounding, expanded memory, and an on-chip Localization Compute Engine that accelerates ranging calculations while reducing latency and power consumption. Its independent radio subsystem supports BLE alongside Thread or Zigbee without impacting the main application, making MCX W72 well-suited for smart locks, secure access, asset tracking, indoor localization, and other location-aware IoT applications.

The MCX W72 enables secure, accurate ranging for BLE applications using Bluetooth Channel Sounding. Its integrated Localization Compute Engine accelerates distance calculations, while expanded memory supports advanced applications, multiple connectivity stacks and robust over-the-air firmware updates. Use cases include smart locks, access control, asset tracking, indoor localization and other products requiring precise proximity awareness.
