KEMET (YAGEO GROUP) - SCF-X Series Three-Phase Common Mode Chokes – PTM | DigiKey

Welcome to this Product Training Module for YAGEO Group SCF-X Series Three-Phase Common Mode Chokes, three-phase common mode toroidal coils that provide common mode noise suppression for AC line filtering in high current applications.

Three-phase noise filtering in industrial and other high-power applications is frequently constrained by high operating current, elevated ambient and self-heating temperatures, and the need to minimize series resistance to limit loss and preserve efficiency. YAGEO Group's SCF-X series chokes use advanced materials and manufacturing to address each of these challenges

The chokes are rated for operation from negative 40 to positive 130 degrees Celsius, including self-heating, are available with rated current from 1 to 110 amps, and have low DCR.

The SCF-X family is available in a variety of sizes, allowing engineers to balance size and current rating.

SCF21X is the most compact option with a 1 to 7 amp current rating. Increasing in size, the SCF31X is rated for 5.5 to 22 amps, SCF47X is rated for 20 to 50 amps, and SCF56X is rated for 40 to 80 amps. These all have a rated voltage of 500 volts AC or DC.

Stepping up to the SCF76X affords a current range of 65 to 110 amps and a voltage rating of 800 volts AC or DC. While this is a larger core, it offers incredible current handling and the lowest DC resistance per line, with the 110 amp variant coming in at 0.27 milliohms.

Combined, the SCF-X family provides coverage from 1 to 110 amps for 500 volt and 800 volt applications with a wide range of available inductance values. They provide broadband noise filtering from kilohertz to tens of megahertz, addressing frequencies typically associated with conducted emissions or immunity problems.

All SCF-X chokes feature a flame-retardant UL 94 V-0 base and cap, high withstanding voltage, and high insulation resistance to support safer system-level integration. They’re rated for operation from minus 40 to plus 130 degrees Celsius, providing reliable performance across a broad range of operating conditions. Many are also offered in horizontal or vertical configurations for mechanical flexibility.

For the SCF-X series, YAGEO Group uses a nanocrystalline metal core. Compared to typical ferrite materials, this nanocrystalline core offers much higher magnetic permeability. This results in broader and more effective noise attenuation than conventional ferrite chokes, while also reducing the size and complexity of filter designs by minimizing the need for multiple or oversized EMI chokes to match both the frequency coverage and current handling capability offered by the SCF-X series.

The YAGEO Group SCF-X series is suitable for filtering three-phase AC lines and reducing conducted EMI in industrial equipment, power supplies, and other three-phase applications.
